Misc

The things I do when I am not fitting models: a chessboard, a swimming pool, and a tennis match on in the background.

A chess set on a glass board in the starting position

Chess

I have played since I was 6 and earned Candidate Master at 10. These days it is mostly blitz online: a mind spa between MCMC runs. I follow Ding Liren, China's first World Chess Champion.

Watching a match from the stands at a tennis tournament in Austin

Tennis

A long-time fan of Novak Djokovic — the return of serve, the elasticity, the refusal to lose from two sets down.

Swimming out past the breaking waves

Swimming

Restful laps, and open water whenever there is an ocean nearby. It is the one hour a day with no notifications in it.

Traveling

Canyons, coastlines, and long drives. A few favorites are below — more on the travel page.
